Regatta Sailing

On the first day on Upper Klamath Lake this Saturday, the winds were quite steady for the 42nd annual Firecracker Regatta. There were around 22 sailboats divided across 4 classes of boats that participated in the event so as to get in 5 races with a positive hope for something more to take place on Sunday.

There were skippers from Ashland, Medford, Northern California and Eugene to thoroughly enjoy the weather on the lake in the mid 80s. Besides, there was a strong breeze of around 10 to 16 mph.

As far as the forecast for Sunday is concerned, there were 9 catamaran boats and multihull for colorful sailing and fast sails. In addition, there were small razor boats that accommodated only one man, which is for the Performance Handicap Racing fleet, 20 foot Santana 20s and 21 feet San Juan Class that popped up bright shaded Spinnakers during sailing downwind. Sydney Noumea Race Returns In 2018

After a hiatus for over 20 years, the Sydney Noumea Race is all set to return to the sailing calendar. The race will return in 2018 and this was announced by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. The CYCA along with the Cercle Nautique Caledonien will be organizing and conducting this race in 2018. It will be held on June 2, 2018.

The 2018 Sydney Noumea Race is open to monohull yachts that measure between 9 to 30.48 meters. In tandem with the Sydney Noumea Race, Auckland, Melbourne and Brisbane clubs will also be ongoing races. The Sailing manager of CYCA, Justine Kirkjian, who also manages a Croatia Yacht Charter company, is a very proud and happy man. He is excited to bring back the Cat 1 race to Noumea. He is hoping that the race will be attracting a lot of Blue Water competitors and many of the racers who have not yet had the opportunity to race in this event before. Read More

Rickham And Birrell Carry British Medal Hopes

Alexander Rickham and Niki Birrell are all set to compete in the two-person SKUD Paralympic at the Rio Paralympics. The team won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Games and wants to upgrade it at the Rio Paralympics. They are clear favorites to end up with a podium finish as they have won all the four World titles held between Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

This will be the third straight Paralympics that Rickham and Birell will be taking part in. They are in pretty good form at the moment and have 5 World titles to show off in their trophy cabinet. Tom Rossi has been named as Hall Spars and Rigging and Hall Composites’ president as well as CEO of the company which has come into effect from the end of June 2016. Rossi would handle all Hall operations in the regions like New Zealand, Holland and US.
